If you have a teen interested in theater, the Berkeley Rep has a full slate of activities and workshops and to keep their interest. From acting to directing, writing to production the Berkeley Rep offers it in some way or form. Teen One-Acts Festival
Explore the creative and collaborative elements of theatre-making with the Teen One-Acts Festival. Every year two original plays are written, performed, directed, designed, and produced by Bay Area high school students. Young Writers of Color Collective (YWoCC)
(YWoCC)—a year-long playwriting apprenticeship for emerging writers of color in grades 9–12.
YWoCC is lifting the veil of the playmaking process and gives teens the chance to experience their passions full throttle. Selected teens will dive deep into a unique course of study under the guidance and mentorship of top Bay Area theatre-makers, including professional playwrights, directors, dramaturgs, and actors. Participants will complete in-depth writing workshops, see local theatre as a group, witness a professional rehearsal process, and create original works to be showcased at Berkeley Rep’s Ground Floor in June 2020. Teen Council
We are actors, directors, writers, designers, improvisers, and theatre-goers. Teen Council brings together a diverse group of teens (grades 9–12) from all over the Bay Area. We write, direct, and perform in our own productions, see plays at local theatres, explore different artistic departments through interactive workshops, and get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens at Berkeley Rep through interviews with professional artists. Core Council
Berkeley Rep’s Core Council is a group of 10–15 student leaders from around the Bay Area who engage their peers through theatre arts. As the face of Berkeley Rep’s teen programming, Core Council are the leaders of the general Teen Council. Core Council
Free Children’s Theater in the Park is presented by Peninsula Youth Theatre and the City of Mountain View. Every Friday from June 21 through August 16 at 6:30 PM.
Peninsula Youth Theatre and the City of Mountain View present FREE children’s theatre in the park all summer long on the Center’s outdoor ParkStage (located adjacent to Pioneer Park). You’ll see fairy tales and other children’s stories—a different 45-minute production each week performed by the children from Peninsula Youth Theatre’s “Theatre in the Park” summer camp program. Bring the kids, a picnic dinner and a blanket to sit on for a fun way to end the week for the whole family.
There is free lawn seating so bring your chairs and blankets.
Topsy Turvy Tales – June 21 Laughs abound in these topsy-turvy folktales from the Ukraine, including “The Blabbermouth, the Puff Monster and the Wolf.”
The Reluctant Dragon – June 28 Find out what happens when the knight rides to the cave to fight the fire-breathing dragon…and finds that he doesn’t want to do battle at all? A funny adaptation of the classic story.
The Stories of Beatrix Potter – July 5 Join Peter Rabbit and his friends Jemima Puddleduck and Mrs. Tiggywinkle as they get themselves in and out of trouble in this celebration of the stories of Beatrix Potter.
Princess Who – July 12 A young girl wakes in the forest and can’t remember ANYTHING! Can Rumplestiltskin, Goldilocks and the three bears, Hansel and Gretel and the rest of the fairytale world help her find her way?
Pocahontas – July 19 Young princess Pocahontas enjoys playing tricks and games, but grows into a hero.
The Golden Goose – July 26 Simple but kind-hearted Frederick heads for the castle with his golden goose. but along the way he’s a magnet for the greedy who grab the enchanted goose and can’t let go!
The Little Mermaid – August 2 Living under the sea isn’t enough for the Little Mermaid, who longs to live on land.
The Fabulous Fable Factory – August 9 A youngster trips over a lever on an old machine causing wonderful things to happen.
Princess Wanted – August 16th
A wealthy Prince decides it’s time to marry, despite the fact that he doesn’t know any princesses he’d like to wed! Join him as his search for a princess takes him to some unexpected places.
