Today: Author’s Corner (Virtual)

For teens hoping to hone their creative writing skills, stop by Author’s Corner!

Author’s Corner is a monthly, informal creative writing club to help support Short Edition Authors, teens considering a career as an author looking to get practice and feedback on their work, teens looking to create works to help build portfolios and samples for creative writing programs, or any teen that is working on a piece of creative writing/wanting to practice their creative writing skill. It will also provide an opportunity for teens to practice 21st century skills of creativity, communication, collaboration, initiative, productivity, and social skills.

Each session will feature new writing prompts (that we hope will inspire bigger stories or cure writer’s block!), time to practice writing, an opportunity to share and discuss our writing with peers, open forum to swap writing tips and tricks, as well as short lesson each session focusing on a different facet of creative writing. This virtual writing club is hosted by teen volunteers with the support of a librarian and is open to any teen aged 12-18 that is interested in creating a supportive space that encourages creative writing development.

Registration is required.  Participants will need access to WIFI and a laptop/computer and the club meetings will be held through Zoom.

To request an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act for library-sponsored events, please call 408-808-2000 or email Accessibility@sjlibrary.org at least three business days prior to the event.

Making Sense of the College Application Process | Online

This webinar will address how to get started, student and parent responsibilities, and a timeline for getting everything done.

On January 13, Advice Chaser will host a webinar titled, “Making Sense of the College Application Process.” Many students and parents assume applying for college is difficult and burdensome, but it doesn’t have to be if it’s managed right.

This webinar will address how to get started, student and parent responsibilities, and a timeline for getting everything done. Julia Tushaus, a college counselor at a private high school, will present. As someone who’s helped countless high school students choose and apply to colleges, she’ll have valuable insights for both parents and students.
