Ice Skating in San Jose at Downtown Ice

Holiday ice skating has returned to San Jose with Downtown Ice at the Circle of Palms. The ice skating rink is next to the Fairmont Hotel and the San Jose Museum of Art, and across the street from The Tech and Christmas in the Park. In addition, this year Downtown Ice will be open from November 16, 2018 to January 27, 2019.  Downtown Ice will become  “Championship Ice” Jan. 4-7 for the CFP Championship Game on Jan 7th, and will be open until Jan 27 for the NHL All Star Game at SAP Center.

Downtown Ice in San Jose is one of the best bargains for holiday skating rinks because a ticket is for “all you can skate” instead of just for a skating session.  To stay up to date on discounts, offers and special events, sign up for the Downtown Ice newsletter or follow Downtown Ice at Facebook and Twitter.

Teal Pumpkins –  Don’t Forget Treats for Kids With Allergies

Halloween is coming and we all know that many kids are allergic to nuts, milk, egg, soy or wheat.

Remember to have (if you can) other kinds of treats.  I try to offer small toys, sticker and other alternatives.

Let parents know that you have different kinds of treats by putting a TEAL pumpkin or display a TEAL pumpkin sign in your window.   If you are looking for Teal pumpkin homes, check out the map of locations.

Have Your Heard About The Great American Read?

THE GREAT AMERICAN READ is an eight-part series on PBS about America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey).  But you don’t have to watch the series to enjoy the books and events.
Here are some ways to have fun with the Great American Read with your family.
1) Vote for your favorite books.
2) Choose a book to read as a family.

3) Grab an audio book from
Amazon or your local library.  Listen to it in your car or set aside time during the week to listen as a family.

4) Have a “friendly discussion” about which book is best.

Go Free To Museums When You Want To -Discover and Go

One of the things that I love about Discover and Go (free museum and attraction passes/discounts) is that you don’t have to wait for a Free Day! You can go when you want to or when you have guests in town.  So if you haven’t checked out Discover and Go, do it now.  Several Bay area school districts will have their first vacation at the end of September.   Also as school begins, some of the locations will be great resources for homework and projects.
Discover and Go has expanded to most of the libraries in the Bay area and also Southern California too.  Here are your links for more info.

Discover and Go Partners/Venues: This list changes depending upon which library system you use, but the list is impressive!
