Today: Virtual Racial Understanding, Social Equity, and Environmental Justice Symposium
Join teens from the nonprofit Youth Environmental Power Initative (YEPI) to discuss issues of race, social equity, and environmental justice.
Each week’s session will focus on one of the three main topics and allow time for discussion about these important issues.
Some sample questions that may be asked: Sharing of your own racial/ethnic background. At what age did you start to realize there are racial differences between people? Session 2: Social Equity: This session is aimed towards conducting honest and open dialogues to brainstorm creative and innovative ideas to mitigate the racial issues that occur within schools and communities. (Occurs in place of West Valley’s monthly Teens Reach meeting) Session 3: Environmental Justice: Connect previous discussions to environmental justice. Some questions to consider: What does environemntal justice mean to you? Why is it important? What environmental problems or environmental justice issues do you see in your community? Free.

Today: Virtual Python Basics
Village Square Branch Library presents this virtual program for children in 4th-6th grades who want to understand and unlock the extensive world of programming in Python and do not have prior experience working with programming.
Volunteers will help students learn about the basic principles of Python programming, including variables, control structures, and conditional operators.

Today: STEAM Lab Series: Environmental Awareness (Virtual)
Calling all students ages 6 – 10! We invite you to learn about our environment during Spring break (April19 – April 23).
Library volunteers from The Green Heroes Environmental will build awareness of environmental topics and develop ways in which we, the difference-making generation, can address issues that threaten us. We explore topics like water conservation, soil erosion, and community engagement with wildlife among many others, through interactive lessons, thoughtful discussions, and engaging games and projects.
The teen leaders of these classes are passionate about making an impact in our global community and can’t wait for you to join!

Today: Create Your Own Comic Adventure for Kids: A Guided Comic Making Game (Virtual)
Get ready for the Graphic Novel Making Contest by trying out your on-the-fly comic making skills with this in-person, guided, solo game.
Based on the “fast and furious” drawing game, Mangaka, you will follow three basic rules, pick a theme set, and draw the start of a comic with two panels. Then in each new drawing phase, continue the story with more themes and even more panels. Each drawing phase is only five minutes so each new phase means you’ll have to draw even quicker than before.
All participants will score their own comics at the end of each phase and will have the opportunity to share.
Supplies needed:
Mangaka Solo Game Pages or 4 pages of blank paper
Pencil & Eraser or Pen
