Family Fun: Martinelli’s Apple Cider Tasting Room

Did you know that you can visit Martinelli’s in Watsonville for FREE apple juice samples?

Last week, I had a great time visiting their company store and Tasting Bar.  It was great to look at the history of Martinelli’s, which is over 150 years young but the most fun was…..

tasting their sparkling apple ciders and juices.  So many more than what we can find at our local supermarkets. We tried at least 10 different flavors, including their organic line.

Stop by any time. Samples are free and there are always flavors on sale (as much as BOGO Free).

Free Shakespeare in the Park San Jose

Free Shakespeare in the Park production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Silicon Valley Shakespeare begins its annual Free Shakespeare in the Park series with its fresh twist on  A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  Bring your family, friends, a blanket and a picnic to enjoy free professional theater in a beautiful park setting! A Midsummer Nights’ Dream is a family favorite because whether or not you can follow the plot, there are lots of funny scenes and characters. Admission is free.

Midsummer Night’s Dream will be at Willow Street Park, June 7 – 23, 2019 (Thursdays – Sundays)  at 7:00pm

A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows the misadventures of four young lovers, a group of aspiring actors, and a team of mischievous fairies as they all enter the woods outside Athens on a summer night. Love is even more complicated when you add magic! While the king and queen of the fairies, Oberon and Titania are quarreling, Oberon’s right-hand sprite, Puck, is ready for mischief… and with humans such as the young Athenian lovers running about and the troupe of amateur actors trying to rehearse a play for the Duke’s nuptial day in the middle of the fairy’s forest, it couldn’t be easier. Silicon Valley Shakespeare’s all-female cast presents this family friendly comedy full of whimsy and wonder for FREE in Willow St. Park!

In connection with a new partnership between SVS and Montalvo Arts Center (MAC), a 6:00p.m. performance of Midsummer is also scheduled for July 14th at MAC in Saratoga.

How to Enjoy Shakespeare in the Park

We are lucky in the Bay area to have several companies performing free Shakespeare in the Park.  Here are a few quick tips to help make your visit more enjoyable.

  •  1) Bring a blanket or low chair to sit on.
  • 2) Bring food and drink.
  • 3) Caution your kids about how to approach pets and dogs in the audience.  Yes people bring their dogs to watch Shakespeare.
  • 4) Bring a good attitude.
  • 5) Don’t get hung up on the dialogue but instead try to enjoy the entire performance.

And lastly, go, just go and have fun!

A Midsummer Nights’ Dream – Rated E for Everyone

This piece is specifically designed to be fun for the whole family! There should be no material that would cause concern. Parents who are curious about the content of this play can read the plot here.  [LINK].

SVShakespeare offers Shakespeare camps! Help your kids fall in love with the Bard. [LINK]

Save on Disneyland 3-5 Day Park Passes at Target

I feel like an expert on this subject after our recent trip to Disneyland. I checked all of my favorite sites, Costco, AAA, the Disneyland app and Slickdeals.  And buying the tickets at Target using a Target Redcard beat everyone.  Here is the current deal at Target*:

3 Day 1-Park Per Day $210 | With REDcard: $199.50 or $66.50/per day
3 Day Park Hopper $260 | With REDcard: $247 or about $82.33/per day
4 Day Park Hopper $279 | With REDcard: $265.05 or $66.26/per day
5 Day Park Hopper $289 | With REDcard: $274.55 or just under $54.91/per day

Highlights of the Disneyland Tickets Purchased at Target

  • All of Target’s Disneyland tickets are valid now through May 23rd, 2019 with Easter week blacked out. Ticket expires 13 days from first use or 5/23/19, whichever occurs first.
  • Target’s Disneyland tickets include one (1) Magic Morning admission to Disneyland Park (restrictions apply, check Disneyland.com for Magic Morning schedule).
  • Tickets are non-refundable. Unused Tickets keep their value toward an upgrade to something of equal or greater value at the Box Office.
  • Tickets are delivered via email within 4 hours.

Saving Money with Disney Gift Card eGift Purchased at Target

Absolutely, using the Target REDcard gets you the 5% discount! You can purchase Disney egift cards online and receive the egift card via email.  But, another good hack for this is the Disney credit card.  Currently new card holders get a $100 statement credit after their first purchase. I would suggest getting a Disney credit card for each adult on the trip and take advantage of this savings first for souvenirs and food in the park.  Marian’s Note:  Have a mentioned that I would use my credit card for $1 of gas, just to get a perk?  Be Bold!

What About Prices for 1 or 2 Days at Disneyland Resort? Single Park Tickets?

Single day tickets are only available at Disneyland or through the Disneyland app (or website).

If you are really, absolutely, only going to go to 1 park each day, then the 2 day ticket with admission to 1 park per day will save you $55 per ticket.  $225 (adult) and $210 (child).  But if you expect to visit both Disneyland and California Adventure parks over two days and want the flexibility to go to both parks each day, then the 3 Day Park Hopper ticket is your best bargain. Confusing I know, but check the numbers below.

1 Day/1 Park 1 Day/2 Parks
$104-$149 Adults $154-$199 Adults
$98-$141 Kids $148-$191 Kids
2 Day/1 Park 2 Day/2 Parks
$225 Adults $280 Adults
$210 Kids $265 Kids
3 Day/1 Park 3 Day/2 Parks
$300 Adults $355 Adults
$280 Kids $335 Kids

* These Target ticket prices are for adults (ages 10+).  Tickets for kids (3-9) are $50 cheaper. Tickets for kids are available online at Target.com too.

Have A Happy!

Marian
