Today: App Development with MIT App Inventor at San Jose Library Online
Hosted via Zoom by Educational Park Branch:
Recommended Age: 10+. Lessons are most appropriate for pre-teens and teens aged 10-13. These lessons might be somewhat challenging for younger students and potentially too easy for those aged 14 and older.
Join us for an introduction to app development using MIT App Inventor. This is a fun, block-based development tool to create apps online. Find out more at: https://appinventor.mit.edu. The program is appropriate for 4th through 8th grades.
This course begins at Unit 5, but new students are encouraged to review Units 1 to 4 as well. Here’s a helpful resource: https://www.mitappinventor4beginners.net
Projects:
- 3/2, 3/9, 3/16 – Food Chase Game
- 3/23, 4/6 – Tour Guide
- 4/20, 5/11, 5/18 – Two Button Game
- 5/25, 6/1 – Sketch and Guess
This course will be every Saturday, from 3:30 – 4:30 pm. March 2 to June 1. Please only sign-up if you can attend all classes.
Participants will need two devices:
- a computer/laptop/tablet on which to do the coding
- a tablet or phone on which to preview/emulate the app
Please note that we use only the Chrome browser for MIT App Inventor; Internet Explorer is not compatible.
Remember to download the MIT App Inventor Companion app on your smartphone or tablet, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Additionally, it would be helpful for students to establish their own accounts on the MIT App Inventor website (https://appinventor.mit.edu) before the first day of class. This can be done by choosing “Create Apps” at the top left of the homepage, followed by logging in with “their Google account”. For those without a Google account, they can use a unique code to access the platform by selecting “Continue without an account” at https://code.appinventor.mit.edu/login/. In this instance, students should save the code for future use.
This is a weekly virtual class, we will not have class on 4/13, 4/27, or 5/4.
Audience: Pre-Teens, ages 10-12, Teens, ages 12-18 Source
