The Junior Ranger Program is a great way to get your kids (both boys and girls) outdoors and into a free, safe, and fun program! Programs take place in several Santa Clara County Parks each spring and fall for kids ages 9-11 (usually 4th-5th grade). Junior rangers explore park history and nature through outdoor adventures with park staff. Students who successfully complete the program earn a badge and certificate!

If you have a talent for creating comic/manga style illustrated short stories, you are invited to enter San José Public Library’s Graphic Novel Making Contest. Entries can be submitted to any San José Public Library location no later than 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

If your teen has some free time this summer the Santa Clara County Fair is looking for volunteers to pick up 4 hour shifts at the Fair. Volunteers receive free admission for the day of their shift.

Then you want to be a part of Young Eagles. This program is dedicated to giving kids ages 8-17 their first free ride in an airplane, then up the ladder with programs and scholarships culminating with flight training. Check, Please! Bay Area Seeks Kids to Cast. Calling All Young Foodies!
KQED’s Check, Please! Bay Area is seeking passionate young local foodies for a new series of four episodes of the popular program, which puts amateurs in the role of food critics.
Producers are looking for articulate and passionate foodies between the ages of 10 and 14 to star in four new episodes which will premiere on KQED Thursday, November 29. Applications are open online and will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis. Selected applicants will be invited to an interview at KQED’s studios on Saturday, August 18. Eventually 12 children will be selected for the shows with production occurring in September.

Port of Redwood City Calendar Art Contest – Kids Ages 7-8
The Port of Redwood City is hosting an art contest to encourage young residents ages 7-8 to explore and learn about the Port. With the summer season around the corner, children will have many opportunities to visit the Port and participate in waterfront activities such as sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, kite flying, and picnicking, or simply enjoy scenic peninsula views. Budding artists are urged to describe their favorite waterfront memories in art form, and submit their artwork for a chance to be included in the Port’s 2019 calendar.
The following art contest rules apply:
The contest is open to kids ages 7-8 who are residents of Redwood City.
Only one entry per person is allowed.
The entry form must be completed, including parental/guardian consent.
Artwork must be on a horizontal plain sheet of white 8½-inch by 11-inch paper.
Any coloring medium may be used except digital.
The deadline to submit is Wednesday, August 1, 2018.
