Ice Skating in San Jose at Downtown Ice

Holiday ice skating has returned to San Jose with Downtown Ice at the Circle of Palms. The ice skating rink is next to the Fairmont Hotel and the San Jose Museum of Art, and across the street from The Tech and Christmas in the Park. In addition, this year Downtown Ice will be open from November 16, 2018 to January 27, 2019.  Downtown Ice will become  “Championship Ice” Jan. 4-7 for the CFP Championship Game on Jan 7th, and will be open until Jan 27 for the NHL All Star Game at SAP Center.

Downtown Ice in San Jose is one of the best bargains for holiday skating rinks because a ticket is for “all you can skate” instead of just for a skating session.  To stay up to date on discounts, offers and special events, sign up for the Downtown Ice newsletter or follow Downtown Ice at Facebook and Twitter.

Have Your Heard About The Great American Read?

THE GREAT AMERICAN READ is an eight-part series on PBS about America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey).  But you don’t have to watch the series to enjoy the books and events.
Here are some ways to have fun with the Great American Read with your family.
1) Vote for your favorite books.
2) Choose a book to read as a family.

3) Grab an audio book from
Amazon or your local library.  Listen to it in your car or set aside time during the week to listen as a family.

4) Have a “friendly discussion” about which book is best.

Go Free To Museums When You Want To -Discover and Go

Go Free To Museums When You Want To Discover and GoOne of the things that I love about Discover and Go (free museum and attraction passes/discounts) is that you don’t have to wait for a Free Day! You can go when you want to or when you have guests in town.  So if you haven’t checked out Discover and Go, do it now.  Several Bay area school districts will have their first vacation at the end of September.
Also as school begins, some of the locations will be great resources for homework and projects.
Discover and Go has expanded to most of the libraries in the Bay area and also Southern California too.  Here are your links for more info.

Can You Help A School Out?

Normally I would only include a contest such as this, if Bay area schools were involved, but if you could help a school out.  And maybe get more books for other schools, it would be appreciated.
Marian
Go Organically® Fruit Snacks has teamed up with First Book to provide one lucky school with hundreds of Back-to-School kits filled with books, school supplies and more!
Vote for one school below and the school with the most votes will receive the items they need for a successful school year.
With each vote you could also unlock one of fifty Book Wishes, helping fulfill the needs of classrooms across the country.
And just for voting you’ll be entered for a chance to win your own e-reader, beanbag chair and more! Ten lucky runner-ups will receive Go Organically® Organic Fruit Snacks.
I Just Scored a Kindle E Reader for $90 Here’s How!

I just scored a new Kindle PaperWhite for $90 (list $119) plus tax.  Bargains like this usually fly under the radar, but Amazon has a promotion for a free Amazon Gift card PLUS 25% off a new Kindle E-reader.  Why is this a really good deal?  A re-certified Kindle PaperWhite is $99 with a 30 day return warranty.  Mine is new, less expensive and has a 1 year warranty!

This is how it worked for me.

  • Click on the link and answer two questions about my current Kindle.
  • Next fill out the info to ship your current device to Amazon.
  • Amazon then gave me a 25% off discount to apply to another Kindle.  I chose another PaperWhite, but you can choose any E Reader.  I selected Free Two Day Shipping so that my new Kindle would be delivered before I had to ship my old one to Amazon.
  • Today my new Kindle was delivered and I will ship the old one back on Monday.  As the kids would say, Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy.

Once Amazon looks at my old Kindle I will get a gift card for between $5-$25 which is icing on the cake.  The promotion is scheduled to last until September 29, 2018.  Click here to go to Amazon.
