de Young Museum – Free Admission for Bay Area Residents

Free admission to deYoung Museum on the first Tuesday of each month.
  • Free every Saturday for Bay Area residents (all 9 counties!). Qualifying counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.
  • Free the first Tuesday of each month for everyone.
  • Free the first full weekend of each month with a BofA Bank of America ATM, credit or check card.
  • Visitors ages 17 and under always receive free admission to the permanent collection galleries.

Free admission is to permanent galleries and special exhibitions. The de Young is two-fer.  Admission to the de Young also gives you admission to the Legion of Honor (and vice versa).

Closed Christmas and Thanksgiving, but visit the site to confirm hours and if the museum is open.

Free admission to San Jose Museum of Art for Community Day:Maker Day. Community Day: Maker Day features a visit from San Jose Public Library’s Maker[Space] Ship, a performance by the students of Eric Hayslett’s RE-PERCUSSIONS workshops, and art activities exploring the close ties between science and art. Make musical instruments with Eric Hayslett, test the power of the sun with cyanotype printing, explore the power of perception with beginner-friendly sketchbook explorations, and tinker with the power of nature by building a micro-grower. Community Day: Maker Day will also showcase the winners of the Dr. Jerry Hiura Next-Gen Visual Artist Award—a scholarship that celebrates young visionary artists and supports their artistic practice and goals as they pursue higher education.

About the Legion of Honor: The Legion of Honor, San Francisco’s most beautiful museum, displays an impressive collection of 4,000 years of ancient and European art in an unforgettable setting overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge.
Built to commemorate Californian soldiers who died in World War I, the Legion of Honor is a beautiful Beaux-arts building located in San Francisco’s Lincoln Park.  Special things to look for at the Legion of Honor is Rodin’s The Thinker and the Spreckles Organ.um
