Mountain view Earth and Arbor Day Celebration

This FREE community event, themed “Rooted in Our Environment,” aims to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.

Event activities will take place in Rengstorff Park and inside the Mountain View Community Center. An event map will be available closer to the event.

Featured Activities 10 am – 11 am:

Tree Planting Greening our future, one tree at a time. Join us for tree planting. City Council Proclamation Join Mayor Pat Showalter for a special proclamation as we green our future, one tree at a time.

Featured Activities 11 am – 2 pm

  • Earth-Friendly Booths Explore more than 20 interactive, earth-friendly booths! Vendors include the City of Mountain View’s Sustainability Division, Canopy, and more. The Mountain View Public Library will be on-site with the new all-electric bookmobile and seed library, too!
  • Live Animal Programs Experience wildlife up close with a program from the Wildlife Education & Rehabilitation Center or explore the fantastic lives of beetles, millipedes, hissing cockroaches, walking sticks, and whip scorpions at the Insect Discovery Lab.
  • Outdoor Classroom & Hands-On Workshops Participate in free composting, planting, and craft activities or take part in induction cooking demonstrations! Schedule subject to change.
    Zero Waste Induction Cooking Demos: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Maple Room)
    Composting Workshop: 12:30-2 p.m. (Maple Room)
    Eco-Friendly Leaf Art: 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. (Outside)
    Upcycled Piñata Making: 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. (Outside)
    Edible Planting Station: 12-12:30 p.m. and 12:30-1 p.m. (Outside)
    Guided Tree Walk: 12 p.m. (Outside)
  • Planet Playground Led by members of the Youth Advisory Committee, this children’s area features a rock climbing wall, recycling games, a tree-hugging station, a photo booth, chalk drawing, and more.
  • Passport Adventure As you explore the diverse activities and experiences throughout the event, collect stamps in your passport to mark your eco-friendly adventure to take home a free giveaway item! While supplies last.
  • Live Music Enjoy a captivating performance by The Stragglyrs, a Folk Band, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Plant-Based Food Delight your taste buds with offerings from Oaxacan Kitchen Mobile and The Compassionate Crumb. Starting at 11 a.m., free plant-based food samples will be available to taste, while supplies last.

Earth Day Fun at Máyyan ‘Ooyákma!

Join us at Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge for some Earth Day fun! Stop by for a couple hours for some Earth Day themed art lessons, wildflower bingo, nature scavenger hunt, or a guided hike.

Feel free to come and go anytime during your two-hour time slot to enjoy art and explore around the parking lot, but make sure to arrive on time to join us for a guided hike!

These guided hikes will be led by our volunteers from 10:30am – 12:00pm (3 miles), 11:00am – 12:00pm (1 mile), and 12:30pm – 2:00pm (3 miles). These hikes will be a great opportunity to walk the trails and take pictures. To join a hike simply arrive at the parking lot and chat with the volunteers there. Our volunteers will get you signed in and let you know what to expect on the trails with your group.

All groups must be accompanied by an Open Space Authority volunteer at all times while on the trail. To help protect this sensitive and unique ecosystem, in March, April, and May the trails will be open by reservation only on Saturdays and Sundays.

Earth Day Celebrations in the San Francisco Bay Area

We’re celebrating Earth Day early on our April 6th! We’re partnering with the City of San Jose Environmental Services to inform families about city resources to stay climate-smart and better care for our Earth.

  • 🍅 Farmstand 10am-2pm Visit our Farm Stand and pick up some farm-fresh veggies, fruits, and herbs for your kitchen.
  • 💃 Free Zumba 10:30-11:30am Move your body in our free Zumba class.
  • 🪴 Youth Garden 10am-12:30pm Help us plant vegetables in our raised beds!
  • 🧑‍🍳 Cocina Secure a spot at Cocina by pre-registering at veggielution.org/volunteer. Drop-ins are also welcome, but classes fill up fast, so come early!
  • ✏️ Poetry Workshop 10:30am-12pm~ Unlock your creative writing skills in our lush biodome during our poetry workshop.
  • 🎟 Activity & Prizes! 10am-12:30pm Participate in our activity to learn more about plant wildlife and be entered into a raffle to win great prizes!
  • 📚 Resources 10am-1pm The City of San Jose Environmental Services and other community organizations will join us in sharing crucial community resources for you and your family.
  • 🧑‍🌾 Field Volunteer 10am-12:30pm Farm Team grows all the produce on our 6 acre farm with the help of volunteers, and activities range from weeding to planting to harvesting and everything in between!

Join us for a jam-packed Open House & Earth Day Festival at the Main Library.

Activities and Highlights:

Big Truck Meetup: Marvel at a variety of essential vehicles, including a fire engine, police car, street paver, and more. It’s a unique opportunity to see these impressive machines up close.

BikeMobile: Bring your bike for repair by the BikeMobile.

Crafts and Educational Activities: Kids can unleash their creativity with crafts provided by Lakeshore Learning, while attendees of all ages can explore over 20 booths filled with community resources and environmental education.

Library Tours and Teen Lounge: Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the San Leandro Main Library. Teens have a special space too, with activities tailored just for them in our Teen Lounge.

Library of Things Demonstrations: Discover the wide array of items you can borrow from the Library of Things, from tools to technology and beyond.

Informational Booths: Engage with City departments and Alameda County Fire, gaining insight into their services and how they contribute to our community.

Shore Line Cleanup Days

Berkeley Earth Day Cleanup

Individuals, families, and groups are welcome to join us for Shoreline Cleanup at the Shorebird Park Nature Center.

Registering helps the event coordinators know how many volunteers will participate and prepare accordingly.

  • Groups only need one person to sign the group up and can register up to 50 volunteers (including themselves).
  • All participants must fill out a waiver. If under 18, volunteers must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
  • All volunteers should plan to wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the work and weather conditions of the day.
  • A limited number of supplies will be available, so please bring the following if you are able to: Bucket or reusable bag ; Reusable gloves; Trash grabber; Reusable water bottle

Follow the directional signs on University Ave to the South Cove Sailing Basin lot for the cleanup registration area. Let’s work together to keep the Berkeley Waterfront clean!
