Today: When You Wish Upon a Star, A Jazz Tribute to 100 Years of Disney at SFJazz
Over the years the Disney songbook has attracted the attention of some extraordinary jazz artists, including Sun Ra, Dave Brubeck and Louis Armstrong.
Marking the centennial of Walt Disney launching his eponymous animation studio, “When You Wish Upon a Star” infuses the Disney canon with a fresh jolt of jazz energy.
Performed by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s newly created house quintet led by pianist Sean Mason, the show features two vocalists with deep Bay Area ties. Kim Nalley is a San Francisco institution and longtime SFJAZZ favorite who can scat with the dexterity of a bebop horn player, belt the blues with downhome authority, and caress a ballad with imploring tenderness.

Tickets are $25 | $35 | $45 | $65
