The Oakland Aviation Museum proudly honors Black History Month with a presentation on the history of African-American aviators.
This lively, one-hour talk will feature video and stories about famous black aviation pioneers including Bessie Coleman, Eugene Bullard, the Tuskegee Airmen, Ensign Jesse Brown, General Benjamin O. Davis, Commander Donnie Cochran, Major Christina Hopper, astronaut Mae Jemison, and many others.
Oakland has a rich history of aviation and has been home to a number of these black pilots and heroes, including Bessie Coleman and Tuskegee Airman Clyde H. Grimes. Join us and hear their inspirational stories.
Admission: Adults $18; Seniors (55+) $15; Military/Teen $13; Children 5-12 $10; Children Under 5 – Free

And the category is … JOY! Join us for the largest free, family-friendly event of its kind in California.
A parade and festival to celebrate the Black experience past, present and future. We invite you to come be present, be creative, be open and be free.
What’s at The Black Joy Parade? 200+ Black owned vendors including food, drinks, clothing, handmade items and more. 2 stages of Black performances, including a soon to be announced headliner and The Black Joy Choir Activities for the whole family at Lil Joy for kids, Games n’ Grooves and Healing Village. And of course the largest Black Joy Parade procession in the country!
The parade begins on 14th and Franklin in downtown Oakland, Ca at 12:30pm PST. Following the parade, the festival begins at 12pm and ends at 7pm.
Festival Entrance is at 19th and Franklin Streets.

Celebrate Black Heritage at History Park in partnership with the African American Heritage House
Explore History Park museums and learn about the achievements of local African Americans.
Visitors can also assemble a car in honor of Willy T. Ribbs at Curbside Crafts (in the Pacific Hotel) thanks to our partnership with the National Charity League, Willow Rose Chapter.
