Virtual STEM – Sandcastle Protection | Microsoft Online

Welcome to Sandcastle Protection, a virtual STEM project brought to you by Bit Project and Microsoft Silicon Valley.
Students will learn how wind and water change the shape of land. This activity will go over how wind shapes land by using a shoebox covered with plastic wrap.
Students will add a grain-like material (sand, dirt, rice, etc.) and using a straw, blow into the box allowing them to observe the effects of wind.
For this activity you will need the following items at home:
1 Plastic wrap to cover
1 shoebox or 1 plastic bin the size of a shoe box
1 cup of sand or dirt (or rice etc.)
1 straw
1 Ice cube (frozen until needed)
1 piece of paper
colored markers, pens, or pencils
