Today: Persuasive Writing (Grades 4-6) at King Library.

Would you like to sharpen your persuasive writing skills? Would you like to read some fun books and talk about them with kids your age? Then, this is the series for you! It is ideal for students in grades 4-6 who want to improve their writing skills in support of academic excellence. Students must be at least at a fourth grade reading level to attend this series and are expected to attend all 9 sessions to benefit from the robust curriculum.

In this series, students will learn how to recognize persuasive writing by reading persuasive articles and pieces of writing; they will analyze them for their message, purpose, and strategies; and they will practice employing basic persuasive strategies in their own writing in a practical exercise.

Each session will include:

  • an interactive exploration and analysis of persuasive writing
  • persuasive writing practice, including thesis building, using evidence and developing a central line of reasoning
  • time for the student to review their book of choice and brainstorm how they want to argue for others to either read or not read their book

This series is taught in English only.
