Intro to Writing Fiction for Teens | SJPL | Online
January 6 @ 4:00 pm - 5:45 pmFree
Let’s flex our creativity and learn the foundations of writing fiction by joining in Learning Circle Notes. Learning Circles are like study groups and support systems where people with similar learning interests can come together to help accomplish their learning goals on a subject, in this case, creative writing. In this program we will work our way through notes on Open Learn’s Start Writing Fiction course – we won’t have a teacher, instead a librarian will act as a facilitator, coaching participants through an adapted version of this full course. We will meet over 5 sessions to learn the basics on character and setting creation, as well as an overview of genre writing, by discussing lessons on each and completing writing exercises to help hone our fiction writing skills together. This Learning Circle is for teens ages 13-17 that are interested in joining Teens Reach to volunteer with the library as a Teen Writer for Short Edition, or of course just for fun. This course is suitable for teens ages 13-17. It is a virtual Learning Circle that will be conducted live over 5 session via Zoom. Sessions will not be recorded, so participation in all sessions in strongly recommended. Pre-registration is required, and Zoom information will be emailed to participants at least 4 hours before the first session. If you have not received a Zoom link by this time, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Participants will need access to WIFI and a laptop/computer and the class will be held through Zoom. Fifteen minutes prior to the class, please ensure your system’s audio is working properly. If interested, you can download or find out more information on Zoom software here. To request an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act for library-sponsored events, please call 408-808-2000 at least three business days prior to the event.
