InSight Mars Lander Roadshow at Exploratorium
From April 18- 22, 2018, the Exploratorium will host the InSight Mars Lander Roadshow. Visitors to the Exploratorium will be able to meet NASA/JPL and Exploratorium scientists, ask questions about the mission, and interact with models and exhibits related to the InSight Mars lander that will collect seismic data on Mars. The InSight mission, short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, will place a single lander on Mars in order to better understand the rocky planet, and to understand how seismicity affects planets over time. NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) scientists who will soon be engaged in studying the seismic activity of Mars—or “marsquakes.”
Visitors to the Exploratorium and InSight Roadshow will be able to hear from NASA scientists and engineers and better understand the mission through hands-on activities.
- Using an exhibit built by JPL, visitors will also have a chance to “Make their Own Quake” by jumping up and down to measure the seismic waves.
- Try virtual reality headsets to experience panoramas of Mars and will be able to interact with a Mars globe with a cutaway showing its interior.
- Selfie stations will allow space-loving visitors to share pictures of themselves on Mars.
