Free Telescope Viewings | Foothill College Observatory

Every clear Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. to noon for solar viewing. Every clear Friday evening, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. for star gazing.
Programs are free of charge to visitors of all ages. The observatory is closed when it is cloudy.
Saturday Solar Viewing: 10 a.m. – Noon
See spectacular views of two different layers of the sun through white-light and hydrogen-alpha 0.6 Angstrom filters.
Visitors can inspect two different layers of the sun –– the photosphere and the chromosphere. Depending on solar activity, guests may see sunspots (giant cooler areas on the sun’s surface), solar prominences (huge flame-like eruptions), and solar flares (titanic explosions).Source: Peninsula Astronomical Society.
Observatory Location
The observatory is located adjacent to Parking Lot 4 and the Krause Center for Innovation (Bldg. 4000).
