Comic Arts Fest Kickoff Day

The Peninsula Libraries Comic Arts Fest is back! Join Menlo Park in a super team-up with other libraries from throughout San Mateo County, a special event celebrating the art of comics! Meet dozens of comic artists including Lalo Alcaraz, the Herblock Award-winning editorial cartoonist and Cultural Consultant on the Oscar-winning Pixar film “COCO.”
The Peninsula Libraries Comic Arts Fest Kickoff Day in South San Francisco is a small press comics expo, a free day-long event bringing you the excitement of a comic con exhibit hall, with dozens of local creators and special guests.
Event Schedule
- 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Portfolio Reviews with Sara Alfageeh
Sit down with award-winning artist, author, and game developer Sara Alfageeh for a portfolio review. Discuss next steps and get feedback on your art with a working artist whose credits include Google, Star Wars, and Avatar The Last Airbender. - 11 a.m.: Gary Whitta
Gary Whitta is a screenwriter and author best known as co-writer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Gary has also written for the animated TV series Star Wars Rebels. His first novel, Abomination, debuted in 2015 to critical acclaim. - 12:30 p.m.: Molly Ostertag & Ngozi Ukazu
Molly Ostertag is an Igntaz and Prism Award-winning graphic novelist. Her debut, The Witch Boy, is being adapted into a feature film by Netflix, and her latest book, The Girl From The Sea, debuted as a #1 YA Bestseller.
Ngozi Ukazu is a DC Comics artist, NYT-bestselling graphic novelist, and the creator of Check, Please!, BUNT!, and the forthcoming graphic novel FLIP. - 2 p.m.: Lalo Alcaraz
Lalo Alcaraz is a writer, producer, and cultural consultant for film, TV and animation, including projects at Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney, Fox, and Xbox. He was Cultural Consultant on the Oscar-winning Pixar film “COCO.” Lalo is a Herblock Award-winning editorial cartoonist, and the creator of the daily comic strip “La Cucaracha,” published nationwide since 2002.
