Today: ArtStem: Architecture Design at Hillview Library
Come join us and explore different STEM concepts through art in 3 Sunday workshops with ArtStem! The Architectural Design workshop elaborates on the basics of architecture such as materials, structure, and environmental resistance. We discuss the features of buildings that allow them to withstand extreme weather conditions, allowing students to deeply think about the subject. The artworks in this workshop include the drawing of the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world), Eiffel Tower, and Golden Gate Bridge (applying the concepts and ideas learned). Week 1 (Oct. 30th): Burj Khalifa Students will learn the fundamentals of architecture through the process of drawing the Burj Khalifa. The workshop also covers the structure that allows the building to stand and how it resists winds at high altitudes. Week 2 (Nov. 6th): Eiffel Tower The second workshop covers the inspiration behind the Eiffel Tower and continues to build on the concepts of class 1 by continuing to look through the materials used and how that contributes to the structure or the Eiffel Tower. Week 3 (Nov. 13th): Golden Gate Bridge Students will learn the importance of isometric grid sheets, how these are used in the industry. It also connects to some of the basic foundations of a bridge which is fundamental to its structure.
